It Definitely Wasn’t The Orange Grove

-continued

The girl in the orange grove took Papoy’s offer seriously to stay there forever with her own piece of land. There was a lot of land in her eyes.  The land that the cows grazed on and the land yay the orange trees grew on. The land that her mom and dad lived on. The land that her aunt and cousins lived on next door. But somehow, she just knew that she had to leave, at least for a little while. And so when she was 18, she packed up her things in a suitcase and went to live at her own apartment. She had no car and a part time job. And her family was very upset. But to her, the boy she loved, that they didn’t approve of, was all she could think about. And it took all her courage to leave. But she did.

She was all alone in that apartment, and it definitely wasn’t the orange grove. It was only 4 miles away from the orange grove, but it might as well have been a different world. She had a black and white TV on the floor and a stove that took two hours to cook a TV dinner. But she just knew it would be worth it. And one day, Pappy and Granny came and knocked at her door.

They missed her very much. But they knew she needed help. And they offered to buy her a car, whatever a thousand dollars could buy. That sounded like a million dollars to her. And she knew the car she wanted. A 1978 Buick Skylark that her boss was selling.

And she got that car. And a bag of oranges from Pappy with the check to pay for it.

If you have been following our journey, you may know us from the blog, 2 Traveling Dogs. We have used our many platforms for animal rescue and healing people along the way. This project in Italy is overwhelming and we simply can’t do it alone. We would love to have your support with any amount here! Thank you so much.
