Changes and Ernie
This is a continuation of The Girl In The Orange Grove Series of how I ended up in Italy
After Mr. Scotty died, Skanky died. Pappy was in a nursing home getting care for his injuries. The orange grove was empty and so was the yellow house in the middle of it.

Life changed for everyone after that in the orange grove. Pappy knew he may never come home, and home was life. He tried to hold on, but he never recovered. Granny drove to visit him every day. She was so feeble herself, and yet, she made sure he was showered and fed and clean.
The girl in the orange grove now had no dogs and no Pappy. Nate was away on business so much that she was most often alone with her thoughts and feelings. Not having children of her own felt more heavy with no one to take care of. And life just seemed ridiculously difficult.
One day at the bank, she found out her friend there had went to a shelter and adopted a dog. You went to a shelter to get a dog? This seemed odd to her. Her dogs had always just shown up. And she was secretly hoping one would now.
She started looking at the shelter website online and saw a dog…a big, fluffy golden retriever puppy! Perfect. She told Nate about the puppy, and he was not very enthused. Wasn’t it too quick? Too much to go thru again? But after days of going back and forth, he said to go look at him. And by then, the puppy named Ivan was gone. Adopted.
The girl in the orange grove found herself being upset about a dog she had never met. So she decided just to stop looking. Little did she know, Nate looked every day at that website.
One weekend, Nate was home from business and the girl in the orange grove decided she would get out of that yellow house to go to a wedding shower. She wasn’t gone very long, but Nate kept calling and calling. Asking when she would get home. She knew that was odd, but it was nice he was home and wanted to see her.
As she drove down their swampy road and pulled in the driveway, she saw him. There he was. A little puppy sitting down waiting for her named Ernie.

Thank you so much from our hearts. Your support of the blog, animal rescue posts and our new goal of using this property for a wildlife refuge and educational center.
We have made many mistakes over the years, but our 2 Traveling Dogs family has stuck by us along the way. To over 48 rescue visits and using our platforms to help network rescue animals. Fruitycake is the face of animal rescues now, and we continue the blog in Brickle and Digby’s honor.
Our way of showcasing rescue isn’t always apparent, especially now. But working behind the scenes and using our platforms for good is what we endeavor to do. It’s been harder than ever. But we think this will be the best chapter of our lives.
That being said, we can’t do this without support. Costs for the blog far exceeded contributions last month. But if you’d like to help us continue in July, or for the refuge, or even for groceries, all the links are below.
Thank you again for your amazing support.
