This is a continuation of the girl in the orange grove series. Find out what led us to Italy!
Years went by in the double wide trailer. One day, the girl in the orange grove looked out her window. And there he was. A black Labrador carrying a baby puppy in her mouth. He was little, but feisty. When the girl went to open the door of her big, beautiful, double wide trailer to see what was happening, it was too late. The puppy ran underneath the trailer and the mom ran away. She had dropped her puppy off in the orange grove.
Now, the girl in the orange grove loved dogs, but she didn’t ask for a delivery. All Nate wanted was fish. He said that was the most responsibility he could handle. And yet, here this puppy was. But the puppy would not let her near him. She tried crawling underneath the trailer herself, but he would run away, she would crawl out, and he would run back underneath.
When Nate got home from work, she asked him what they should do. He said they both worked and how could they have a dog? So she went to ask Granny and Pappy if they wanted a dog. Granny said she knew where the dog had came from. You see, Granny would walk every day thru the neighborhood. And she had seen a litter of puppies. Black lab puppies. She decided to go to their house and tell them to get their puppy. But they denied it was their puppy, Granny felt bad, and she came back home. Now, it was the girl in the orange grove and Nate’s decision on what to do.
Nate told Rachael it was up to her. But that if she wanted him, he couldn’t come inside. He built the puppy an air conditioned dog house, just in case he would stay. And when Rachael said she wanted him, Nate ran outside saying “Skanky dog! You can stay. You skanky, dirty, swamp dog!” He loved that swamp, and how he had a name. Skanky.

But Skanky wanted nothing to do with that air conditioned dog house. And night one, he came inside. He was here to stay. And it was his double wide trailer now too.
