Or Carry It Back Down

Last night, I was looking at our little downstairs space. There is a living area, a small kitchen area, and another entrance, I guess a landing area, up the stairs.

I was truing to figure out how the previous owners used the spaces. Obviously, the kitchen area has a sink. And it did have a small, portable propane tank and burner.

But then, on the landing part, there are two small refrigerators. So apparently, they kept their food up the stairs and carried it down to cook it. I don’t care about inconvenience. Obviously. But I also want to make the space functional. And now is the time to picture how I want it to be.

We need a heating source. And so I was thinking last night, I wondered what the owners used. There is no fireplace. But a place in the wall that they sealed up that was used for ventilation.

And so, instead of buying a pellet stove, which apparently you have to get approved to use here, after we googled it…I wondered if there was anything left here as far as a stove. And so this morning, we looked. And we found an old wood stove. And since it would be our primary heating source, we can use it here. Rules, rules, rules.
But. It is in BAD shape. I mean…bad. But we have a choice here. Redo and restore what we find and use it. Even though it takes longer and is harder. Or, we can carry it down the mountain. We choose not to do that if we don’t have to.

And so…the next week, we will get supplies and tools to fix it. Paint. And so much stuff. In the long run, it will be cheaper. And easier than searching for one here. Or riding the train to Genova to get one and carry it back. One thing at a time for winter.

I’m still looking for a bed and couch. One that can be used together. We literally have a few weeks to get this all done. Before the winter comes. It’s already started raining. And I can’t even dry our clothes outside. Ok. I need to remind myself. One. Thing. At. A. Time.
