Temporary Solutions

It’s been a good few weeks here at Under The Crow. Although it’s just the two of us persons and one dog physically doing the work, we feel like we are making strides. But I also wish we could finish at least one project completely. It’s not happening. I feel like there are a bunch of loose ends everywhere. Including our moods. The rain has temporarily halted my digging project.

The rain and wind has also halted temporarily the clearing of weeds and burning. We will get back to those things in the next few days. But this week, we continued on getting a temporary fix to our bathroom situation. In order to live here and in order to have gotten our dogs here, we had to face the fact that to make it functional, we would have to make temporary repairs before we could make permanent ones. Like the bathroom. We’ve been using an outside toilet since July. And I’m over it. Especially in the rain and cold.

We got temporary water coming in to use a shower inside with hot water. But that is temporary too.
Lead pipes? We have them. Old pipes? Older than old. And we have to replace everything. But we don’t have the time now…just two of us. So temporary solutions until we get official permission to stay longer at the beginning of next year and survive the winter. That is what we are doing. So the bathroom situation? We have a few more supplies to get “in town” tomorrow. For now, we had to make the old toilet work because the new ones didn’t fit. And that meant a lot of scrubbing!! I can’t wait until we can get the new ones in their bathroom. But I will be content for this temporary solution now.

We don’t have running water yet. Did I mention the pipes!! So we get it from the waterfall still. And electricity is still our small solar generator charged
by a gas generator which we have to haul fuel up. I know. Let’s give it time. We will sort this out.
Someone asked us if this seemed normal. Nope. Sure doesn’t. But living a life not following our dreams seems even more abnormal. So we keep trudging up our muddy path. And maybe one day that muddy path will lead to our house with a couch. That sounds like a dream!! Oh, I miss you, couch.
No. We don’t have the funds of hiring someone now. And we want to do it ourselves. That’s part of this journey. This project. Our growth. And hopefully your patience with us.
