This is a continuation of The Girl In The Orange Grove series of how we ended up in Italy
The girl in the orange grove now had no double wide trailer. Nate and her sold it to make room for their dream house. She knew it would be yellow with a wrap around porch. And it seemed like a dream and a nightmare at the same time. Especially for Skanky.
Skanky loved being under that double wide trailer. He had dug the perfect hole and had a stash of cans to chew on. So when they moved his house away, and the trucks came to pick it up in two pieces, he was upset. So he went back to Pappy and Granny’s house thru the orange grove. And Nate and Rachael did too. Right back to the apartment they had lived in years before.
The girl in the orange grove certainly second guessed their decision to build a house. But they both had good jobs, and they felt like they should. They felt so determined to not be like their upbringings and wanted more. But that more was at the price of many things.
That yellow house took three years to build.

They built it with their own hands. They scrimped and saved and went overboard on a glass staircase, that wrap around porch and a rock bathtub. Now it seems ridiculous. How much they were trying to be different than the people they loved the most.

It was the hardest work they had ever done. Or so they though. When they finally walked in after all was said and done and done over and over again, they thought that Pappy and Granny should be the first inside. When Pappy walked in, all he said was, “those ceilings are a lot of wasted space.” And he was right.
The girl in the orange grove realized too late that they had trapped themselves. And although she loved her family so much, and the thought of leaving made her sick, so did staying forever. But what was done was done. She felt very selfish and very lost. Even in that orange grove. But there was a new dog in their lives…and Mr. Scotty’s hard head was about to change everything.

Our dreams of making this property in Italy a refuge for animals and wildlife and a way to make a difference around the world by educating and encouraging others to do the same is a real focus now. If you’d like to continue to help us, we absolutely thank you. And we love you!
